Wrestling represents one of the oldest forms of combat with origins dating back 15,000 years but was first introduced as an Olympic Discipline in 1896 in Athens as Greco-Roman Wrestling.  Just as there are multiple forms of wrestling, there are multiple reasons why you should give Wrestling a try today, here’s a few.

Wrestling is a combat sport using grappling techniques such as clinch fighting, throws, takedowns, joint locks, pins and other grappling holds. The 2 most popular forms are Greco-Roman and Freestyle Wrestling.

Hugely popular in the United States, the sport is growing in popularity amongst the Mixed Martial Arts community world-wide and seen as one of the foundations of MMA. Here’s a few reasons why:

Greco Roman Wrestling

  1. You become a Physical Specimen – Wrestling require strength, flexibility and explosion to execute techniques. Matched up in competition depending on weight, you will train to develop the strength to throw a person of your own body weight as well as become accustomed to tumbling. Combining these three qualities is a recipe for an elite athlete.
  2. You increase you Mental Durability – In Wrestling, your objective is to gain a superior position to your opponent, throwing them, taking them down and pinning them for points and submissions. What can be given, is also received. Constantly revisiting failure through sparring and competition, builds up ones mental resilience to keep pushing to better ones opponent but also to return to the mats and keep improving.
  3. You become part of a Wolf Pack – Like all martial arts, competition is solo but training is part of a team. Being physically close to your teammates and by sharing a common goal develops a trust and creates a unique bond where you push one another to ones limits over and over again.
